Frequently asked questions

How do I know how many stitches my embroidery design has?

The stitch count is saved in the embroidery file. Open the file here and the counter reads it in your browser, with nothing to install.

How is machine time calculated?

Stitches ÷ (speed × efficiency), plus the seconds for each color change and each trim. The efficiency accounts for the machine slowing down on long stitches, starts and stops.

What speed should I use?

Check your machine's manual. The maximum speed is rarely the real average: machines slow down on long satin stitches. The starting values come from published sources; time a few designs on your machine and adjust them.

Why is the number of trims an estimate?

DST and JEF files save trims as jumps. The counter treats 3 or more jumps in a row as one trim, which is how many machines are set up. If yours works differently, change the number.

Does the time include hooping?

No. It only counts the time the machine is running. Hooping, loading garments and stops to add appliqué or foam are not included.

Is it free? Is my file uploaded?

It is free and needs no sign-up. The file is read by your browser on your own device and never sent to our servers.
