Frequently asked questions
How much should I charge for machine embroidery?
There is no standard price. Published guides range widely per 1,000 stitches. This calculator starts from your own costs so the price covers your time and materials, and shows the market range next to it.
How is the price calculated?
Cost per piece = machine time × cost per minute + thread + backing + garment. Price per piece = cost × (1 + margin). Order total = price × pieces + digitizing + setup + other charges.
What goes into the machine hour cost?
Everything it costs you to run the machine for an hour: your pay, rent, electricity, needles, maintenance and machine payments, divided by the hours you actually sew.
Where does the market range come from?
From embroidery price guides published in 2025 and 2026, in US dollars: US$0.50 to US$3.00 per 1,000 stitches, usually lower for larger orders. It is a reference, not a rule. We have no sourced data for Mexico or Europe yet.
Should I charge for digitizing and setup?
Many shops do. Digitizing a logo often costs US$15 to US$75, and a setup fee of US$5 to US$10 per order is common. These costs are easy to forget.
Is the result exact?
No. It is an estimate based on the numbers you enter. Taxes are not included.
